Diamonds as a symbol
The beauty of a diamond is hard to miss. Even the smallest stone can rise above its station to bedazzle everyone surrounding; movie starlets, supermodels, it girls all use the power of diamonds to charm the world with their physical beauty.
Diamonds have always been more than this however. They are not only visually stunning, but have been imbued by history and culture with deep, even philosophical meaning. Even as far back as the Greeks, the diamond was put on a pedestal and given lots of meaning that we can still appreciate today.
The Greeks knew diamonds as “adamas” which means invincible. Even without modern science they recognised that diamonds where unsurpassed for their toughness and durability. Over time this recognition of their physical strength transcended, and the stones became symbolic of ideas of loyalty, steadfastness and love.
The rarity of diamonds also meant that they were very precious, not only visually but financially too. Diamond rings have adorned the fingers of some of the most empowered people who have ever lived, and now you can enjoy them too.
These days diamonds are more common than they have ever been, thanks to modern, ethical mining practises. They are still very symbolic however, and are regarded equally for their cultural connotations as their physical beauty. This makes them the perfect stone to be matched with wedding rings.
The diamond is the perfect symbol for a wedding, and for many is the only stone that does that special day the justice it deserves.
